Freedom in Christ

13 Week Course, The Vicarage, 7:30 p.m., beginning Wednesday, 16 April 2008

What does it mean to be free in Christ?  How are we free and what are we freed from?  This course uses scripture to show how to break the chains once and for all to become what we were made for.  Interested?  Why not come along.  Sessions are temporarily suspended for August holidays.  Stay tuned for the updated schedule.

Meeting to Discuss Proposed Changes

On Wednesday evening, 2 April at 7 p.m., a meeting to discuss changes proposed for removing the pews was held at St. Andrew’s church.

Information is available from some outside sources on this issue.  Read History of Pews which is from www.churchantiques.com .

A recent article on the controversy was published by The Guardian and can be read at Pew Controversy.

What is your vision for St. Andrew’s Church?  What would Christ say?  How can we use the resources we have  “To encourage people to meet, and then follow Jesus?”

The Greatest Story Ever Told

In December, my family gathered in Nashville, Tn just after Christmas.  It was one of the rare occasions when we all could be together.  We came from the UK, Ohio, MN and GA to see one another.

To ensure that we actually went out together, my Mother booked tickets to see The Rockettes Christmas show.  We had no idea what to expect but found that it was a total delight.  For the finale, a screen went down and behind it could be seen a nativity scene with the baby Jesus, Joseph and Mary.  When the screen went up, live camels and sheep were revealed and wise men came up through the audience bearing gifts with the words ‘The Greatest Story Ever Told” to rapturous applause.

The events celebrated this week, culminating with the resurrection of Jesus on Easter Sunday, are the reason why the story of Jesus is The Greatest Story Ever Told.  When Jesus entered the city of Jerusalem, he wept.  He knew everything before him and all he felt was love for the souls he was going to save through this incredible act of sacrifice.

One day we will each find ourselves on a road of no return.  Could Jesus have stopped short of the cross?  Could he have opted out?  What will be our response when our time comes?  May you all be blessed with new life this Easter.

New Course – The Christian Life and Why It Makes Sense

Why is it that most non-Christians don’t seem to get Christianity?

Why is no-one really listening?

Why are we not talking?

Based on Stephen Gaukroger’s best-selling book ‘It Makes Sense, Christian Life & Why It Makes Sense’ aims to give people the teaching and confidence to tackle some of the most common objections to the Christian faith.

understand why they are not listening and why we are not talking about our faith;

be more confident in the existence of God and in explaining that fact;

tackle one of the main barriers to faith, suffering;

understand why Jesus is so special;

unpack why the Church really is great;

build your faith in a God who is always with us.

Begins Tuesday 13th November, 7.30pm in St Andrew’s Church &

Wednesday 14th November 2.00 pm in St Andrew’s Church (Come along to either one)
