The Cumbria Spirituality Group is offering a prayer taster day, Saturday, 17 September, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at St. Mary’s Church and Ambleside Church Centre.
Keynote Speaker, Roy Searle, will talk about Loving God, Loving Others, the Great Commandment and the Great Commission.
Other speakers for the various sessions include Kath Dodd, Pauline West, Richard Broughton, Alison Mesher and Cameron Butland.

Justin Welby, the Archbishop of Canterbury, has called on all churches across the land to participate in a week of prayer, from 8 to 15 May. You are invited to join the following events taking place in Coniston.

Why pray? Christians believe that ‘prayer changes things’, and we are all very aware of the need for peace and hope in our world which is trying to cope with so many issues of local, national and international concern. Even the scientific and medical communities have recognised that when people are prayed for, even if not believers themselves, their recovery record is consistently better than those who were not open to prayer.
The Prayer Space is in the body of the warm church and is there for anyone to pop in at any time. You may wish to sit quietly and reflect in peace, write a prayer on a tag and attach it to the prayer tree, light a candle for someone you care for or just ‘be’. There is usually someone there to talk to or pray with if you wish to, but that choice will be yours.
Time Out is for those who want to come together with others to focus on a theme in an active spirit of worship with music and prayer. Time to listen to God.
Often when crisis strikes we can feel helpless or even hopeless, not knowing what to do to help…when that happens…we can always pray!
‘Fear not for I am with you,
Be not dismayed for I am your God,
I will strengthen you, I will help you,
I will uphold you with my victorious right hand’
Isaiah 41:10
So let’s do something positive, and ‘pop-in and pray!’

MAY 1ST BIKERS CHURCH BREAKFAST
9am informal service followed at 9.30 – 11.30 by sharing breakfast together.
Come along for the informal service with a cup of coffee in your hand, or come later for breakfast even if you don’t have a bike! There are so many different types of bikes arriving throughout the morning, from vintage to ‘Easy Rider’, sports bikes and customised trikes. Riders have come from Lancashire, Cumbria, Yorkshire and Tyneside so far! Quality local sausage, bacon and black pudding are served as part of the ‘Full English’ as well as hot porridge tea and coffee. Everyone is made very welcome.
MAY 8th 1662 Holy Communion
9am traditional service with organ accompaniment, followed by coffee and biscuits.
If you like the traditional, more formal yet joyous communion service with hymns played on our recently refurbished organ, this service is for you. A very warm welcome and warm ‘throws’ are given as our little church can be quite cool at times! A hot ‘speciality’ coffee and time to chat makes sure we all leave at the end with an ‘inner glow’.
MAY 15th Healing and Worship Service
9am Worship service with a time of prayer for yourself or someone you know.
This service is accompanied by the organ with worship, Bible readings and sermon. There will be opportunity to receive prayer for yourself or someone you know and this is conducted in a very sensitive manner. Tea and our special coffee end our service at 10am.
MAY 22nd Sing and Share
6pm. informal service in the Old Schoolroom next door, with guest speaker and hot complimentary supper to follow.
If you don’t ‘do’ church, try coming along one evening. Every month we have a different speaker who shares something of their ‘faith journey’ or talent, or gifting. We have had a cup cake maker and beautician, an upholsterer, song writer, band, and the Beech boys support team ‘Christine’ to mention just a few of our interesting speakers so far! We finish with everyone sharing good conversation and a hot supper together. Family, friends and visitors are most welcome.

Beginning Monday 9 May, 7 p.m. at the Vicarage, we will begin the Mission Shaped Ministry flexi course designed specifically for the ecumenical work taking place in Coniston and Torver. This is a first for the trainers coming to us and it is not to be missed!

Richard Passmore the Fresh Expressions Enabler will be leading. Currently the course is planned to run on every 2nd Monday of the month. There is a cost which we haven’t got details of at the present but we will know when Richard Passmore has the information from Fresh Expressions nationally. The idea for the evening would be to start with puddings, so hopefully you will have eaten your evening meal with your family and you bring your pudding to the course.
This opportunity is open to all churches in Coniston, Torver and the Valley.
It doesn’t sound very exciting, but change is afoot and we would love for the communities of Coniston and Torver to jump on board.
The Annual General Meeting for the ecclesiastical parish of Coniston & Torver will take place on Thursday 7 April, 7 p.m., at St. Andrew’s Church.
The electoral rolls of Torver and Coniston have been combined into a new roll. This is currently posted on the notice board of St. Andrew’s Church.
On this occasion, because the date was moved forward and very few people on the PCC were informed, let alone the parishioners, we are accepting additions to the electoral roll for individuals living in Coniston or Torver up to day of the meeting. If you are not currently on the combined roll, there are ER application forms at the back of St. Andrew’s church.

John Fleetwood and Richard Passmore from Kendal are coming to speak on Mountain Pilgrims: Journeying Together to Uncover the richness of life, by reimagining the mountain experience.
Mountain pilgrims is an emerging community of people that share a sense of awe in the mountains. We are seeking to explore the transcendence behind the mountains, valleys, hills and lakes: to meet in the Lakeland hills to better understand what it is that draws us to the thin places – the places where we sense something more than the everyday.
There will be a hot supper to follow, everyone welcome!
A Foundation Day for all leaders to raise awareness and offer skills in recognising and responding to conflict in the church.
