{"id":503,"date":"2020-12-02T11:54:30","date_gmt":"2020-12-02T11:54:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/standrewsconiston.org.uk\/prayerandpraise\/?p=503"},"modified":"2020-12-02T11:54:30","modified_gmt":"2020-12-02T11:54:30","slug":"a-prayer-for-peace","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/standrewsconiston.org.uk\/prayerandpraise\/a-prayer-for-peace\/","title":{"rendered":"A prayer for peace"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><span style=\"color: #800080;\">18 November 2020<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #800080;\">Commemoration for Elizabeth of Hungary, 1231<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Psalm 150<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><sup>1\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>Praise the\u00a0Lord.<sup>[<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=psalm+150&amp;version=NIV#fen-NIV-16396a\">a<\/a>]<\/sup><\/p>\n<p>Praise God in his sanctuary;<br \/>\n<strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0praise him in his mighty heavens.<br \/>\n<sup>2\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>Praise him for his acts of power;<br \/>\n<strong>praise him for his surpassing greatness.<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong><sup>3\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>Praise him with the sounding of the trumpet,<br \/>\n<strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0praise him with the harp and lyre,<br \/>\n<sup>4\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>praise him with timbrel and dancing,<br \/>\n<strong>praise him with the strings\u00a0and pipe,<br \/>\n<sup>5\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>praise him with the clash of cymbals,<br \/>\n<strong>praise him with resounding cymbals.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><sup>6\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>Let everything\u00a0that has breath praise the\u00a0Lord.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Praise the\u00a0Lord.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Hymn: Praise to the Lord the Almighty <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/0JvCmvlm-Qg\"><strong>https:\/\/youtu.be\/0JvCmvlm-Qg<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Revelation 4, The Throne in Heaven<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>4\u00a0<\/strong>After this I looked, and there before me was a door standing open\u00a0in heaven. And the voice I had first heard speaking to me like a trumpet\u00a0said,\u00a0\u201cCome up here,\u00a0and I will show you what must take place after this.\u201d\u00a0<strong><sup>2\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>At once I was in the Spirit,\u00a0and there before me was a throne in heaven\u00a0with someone sitting on it.\u00a0<strong><sup>3\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>And the one who sat there had the appearance of jasper\u00a0and ruby.\u00a0A rainbow\u00a0that shone like an emerald\u00a0encircled the throne.\u00a0<strong><sup>4\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>Surrounding the throne were twenty-four other thrones, and seated on them were twenty-four elders.\u00a0They were dressed in white\u00a0and had crowns of gold on their heads.\u00a0<strong><sup>5\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>From the throne came flashes of lightning, rumblings and peals of thunder.\u00a0In front of the throne, seven lamps\u00a0were blazing. These are the seven spirits<sup>[<\/sup><a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Revelation+4&amp;version=NIV#fen-NIV-30774a\"><sup>a<\/sup><\/a><sup>]<\/sup>\u00a0of God.\u00a0<strong><sup>6\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>Also in front of the throne there was what looked like a sea of glass,\u00a0clear as crystal.<\/p>\n<p>In the center, around the throne, were four living creatures,\u00a0and they were covered with eyes, in front and in back.\u00a0<strong><sup>7\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>The first living creature was like a lion, the second was like an ox, the third had a face like a man, the fourth was like a flying eagle.\u00a0<strong><sup>8\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>Each of the four living creatures\u00a0had six wings\u00a0and was covered with eyes all around,\u00a0even under its wings. Day and night\u00a0they never stop saying:<\/p>\n<p>\u201c\u2018Holy, holy, holy<\/p>\n<p>is the Lord God Almighty,\u2019<sup>[<\/sup><a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Revelation+4&amp;version=NIV#fen-NIV-30777b\"><sup>b<\/sup><\/a><sup>]<\/sup><\/p>\n<p>who was, and is, and is to come.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong><sup>9\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>Whenever the living creatures give glory, honor and thanks to him who sits on the throne\u00a0and who lives for ever and ever,\u00a0<strong><sup>10\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>the twenty-four elders\u00a0fall down before him\u00a0who sits on the throne\u00a0and worship him who lives for ever and ever. They lay their crowns before the throne and say:<\/p>\n<p><strong><sup>11\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>\u201cYou are worthy, our Lord and God,<br \/>\nto receive glory and honor and power,<br \/>\nfor you created all things,<br \/>\nand by your will they were created<br \/>\nand have their being.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Holy Holy Holy<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/i6DBlqFbBhw\"><strong>https:\/\/youtu.be\/i6DBlqFbBhw<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Romans 8:37b-39<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><sup>37b\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong> We are more than conquerors\u00a0through him who loved us.\u00a0<strong><sup>38\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons,<sup>[<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Romans+8%3A37-39&amp;version=NIV#fen-NIV-28155a\">a<\/a>]<\/sup>\u00a0neither the present nor the future,\u00a0nor any powers,\u00a0<strong><sup>39\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God\u00a0that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Meditation:\u00a0 <\/strong><em>As our eyes turn heavenward, our perspective changes.\u00a0 Reality is not just what is before us today.\u00a0 Speak out loud Paul\u2019s words in Romans 8:38-39.\u00a0 Say them again.\u00a0 Memorise them.\u00a0 Hold them in your heart.\u00a0 Carry them with you into the world.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Open Prayer<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>The Lord\u2019s Prayer is said<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Collect\u00a0 <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Lord God,<br \/>\nwho taught Elizabeth of Hungary<br \/>\nto recognize and reverence Christ in the poor of this world:<br \/>\nby her example<br \/>\nstrengthen us to love and serve the afflicted and the needy<br \/>\nand so to honour your Son, the servant king,<br \/>\nwho is alive and reigns with you,<br \/>\nin the unity of the Holy Spirit,<br \/>\none God, now and for ever. <strong>Amen.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Hymn, The Blessing<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/QnC7z03QkEM\">https:\/\/youtu.be\/QnC7z03QkEM<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Iona Blessing<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Deep peace of running wave to you.<\/p>\n<p>Deep peace of the flowing air to you.<\/p>\n<p>Deep peace of the quiet earth to you.<\/p>\n<p>Deep peace of the shining stars to you.<\/p>\n<p>Deep peace of the infinite peace to you.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>18 November 2020 Commemoration for Elizabeth of Hungary, 1231 Psalm 150 1\u00a0Praise the\u00a0Lord.[a] Praise God in his sanctuary;
