Behold, I will be with thee.<sup><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Oswald_of_Northumbria#cite_note-13\">[13]<\/a><\/sup>\u00a0This coming night go out from your camp into battle, for the Lord has granted me that at this time your foes shall be put to flight and Cadwallon your enemy shall be delivered into your hands and you shall return victorious after battle and reign happily.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Oswald described his vision to his council and all agreed that they would be baptised and accept Christianity after the battle.<sup><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Oswald_of_Northumbria#cite_note-14\">[14]<\/a><\/sup>\u00a0In the battle that followed, the British were routed despite their superior numbers; Cadwallon himself was killed.<sup><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Oswald_of_Northumbria#cite_note-Heaven-8\">[8]<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n<p><em>What words is Christ saying to you right now?\u00a0 What is keeping you from listening and putting them into practice?<br \/>\n<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Today&#8217;s prayer<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lord God almighty,<\/span><br style=\"font-weight: 400;\" \/> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">who so kindled the faith of King Oswald with your Spirit<\/span><br style=\"font-weight: 400;\" \/> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">that he set up the sign of the cross in his kingdom<\/span><br style=\"font-weight: 400;\" \/> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and turned his people to the light of Christ:<\/span><br style=\"font-weight: 400;\" \/> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">grant that we, being fired by the same Spirit,<\/span><br style=\"font-weight: 400;\" \/> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">may always bear our cross before the world<\/span><br style=\"font-weight: 400;\" \/> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and be found faithful servants of the gospel;<\/span><br style=\"font-weight: 400;\" \/> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,<\/span><br style=\"font-weight: 400;\" \/> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">who is alive and reigns with you,<\/span><br style=\"font-weight: 400;\" \/> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in the unity of the Holy Spirit,<\/span><br style=\"font-weight: 400;\" \/> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">one God, now and for ever.<\/span><br style=\"font-weight: 400;\" \/><b>Amen.<\/b><\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Today is the commemoration for King Oswald, the namesake of St Oswald Church in Grasmere.\u00a0 Lift High the Cross, is the hymn for the day which you will find at https:\/\/youtu.be\/GbcBXYP4AlE Readings include 1 Peter 4:12 to the end and John 16:29 to the end.
