To say that we have been on a roller coaster over the last week would be an understatement. \u00a0In final fits of agonised wondering, the prayers for Sunday were revealed on a train journey from Birmingham. \u00a0Perhaps they were inspired by the recent UCB reading notes focusing on Isaiah.<\/p>\n
Heavenly Father,<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n How our plans have been foiled.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>Over the last week, so many of your children have been on seemingly fruitless ventures.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>Trains to nowhere, journeys impeded by snow and ice, children happy with glee at school closings, failed technology at every turn, and markets continuing their melt down to unknown levels.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>It would seem that man’s hell bent path of folly has finally been called.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>So God you have our attention now.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>We’re listening.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>Take off our blinders that we can see and open our ears that we can hear.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>It’s clear that the world isn’t going to fall apart if we don’t make it to our destinations.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>All praise and honour and glory and power are yours forever and ever.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n Lord in your mercy, Hear our prayer<\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n Father God, we are fearfully and wonderfully made.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>We are your salt and light.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>So why is your house here on earth cold and dark?\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>Why is there dust in the corners?\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>Why are the walls of our hearts dingy?\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>Have we all been too busy to honour your true house with joy and praise?\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>Are we too uninspired to show others the path to your door?\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>All seeing, all knowing God, you will build your church and your kingdom with or without our help.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>Make your home here in this beautiful village.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>Come down and seat yourself in the cradle of the Old Man.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>Blow the cob webs away from this place with your piercing and powerful light.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>Let us rejoice in praise with your choirs of angels each and every day.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n Lord in your mercy, Hear our prayer.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n Heavenly Father, <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n You are shaking our foundations.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>Throughout time civilisations have come and gone.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>Is ours on the way out?\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>Capitalism, the great market that is worshipped around the world has been manipulated to the brink of destruction.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>The world is bloated by too much debt backed by empty assets which were packaged and sold off by moneychangers whose only care was for the day.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>Oh, we’ll survive.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>We’ll get through the current mess.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>But what will we learn and are we just setting ourselves up for the ultimate meltdown to come? Woe, said the angel.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>Babylon has fallen.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>Whether this is sooner or later depends on whether we have a change of heart.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>Heal our hearts Help us to turn from our wayward ways.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>Heal our land.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>Walk with us.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>We are your people.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>You are our God.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n Merciful loving Father, we pray for your children who are suffering at this minute.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>There are many who have lost their jobs.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>There are many who have lost their homes.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>While our lives have been disrupted by record cold and snow others are suffering from record high temperatures, drought and forest fires.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>In the middle of all this chaos, you are with us.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>Take us by the hand and lead us to your green pastures.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>We are your sheep.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>You are our shepherd.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>This morning we pray especially for Phyllis, Nancy, Eunice, Pat\u00a0and Peter. \u00a0<\/span>Pour your warm and precious healing balm on these your loving children.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>Renew their strength so they will run and not grow weary, walk and not be faint.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n Lord in your mercy, Hear our prayer.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n Father God to each of us you have allotted a different time.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>Though we each have our own time, our time overlaps with millions of other souls in your world.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>We who are the living, in the here and now, have a tendency to think that the world will end if we don’t act.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>We try to pack as much as possible into a day.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>We think that time at rest is time lost.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>On this your Sabboth Day, which you created for man, let us listen for you and move with you so we will only move when you say move and only act when you say act and only speak when you say speak.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>Lead us together Father God.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>One day, there will be no more time on this earth.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>One day, we’ll join your great banquet with all time for all time.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>What a joyous day that will be when we can hear, well done, good and faithful servant.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>Lead us Good Shepherd in our time to your promised land.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n Merciful Father, accept these prayers for the sake of your son, our saviour, Jesus Christ.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>Amen.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" To say that we have been on a roller coaster over the last week would be an understatement. \u00a0In final fits of agonised wondering, the prayers for Sunday were revealed on a train journey from Birmingham. \u00a0Perhaps they were inspired by the recent UCB reading notes focusing on Isaiah.
