Heavenly Light on Daily Life<\/span><\/p>\n

This meditation was originally published in April 2014. \u00a0It is a timely message as we walk through Holy Week in the year 2017.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

A Series of devotionals by Lilias Trotter, Lesson 1<\/em><\/p>\n

Wherever there are women there are looking-glasses, from the Sherifa\u00a0with her great mirror framed in carving and gilding, to the tent of the Bedouin woman, who wears a little leather-covered disc among her many ornaments.<\/p>\n

For all women want to see what they look like \u2013 what they look like to other people.\u00a0 And they know that the mirror gives to their view what they themselves would never see \u2013 the form and the tint of their features and the drapery of their headgear.<\/p>\n

So far the mirror\u00a0goes, no further, it can only picture the outer person.\u00a0 But there is another mirror\u00a0that can shew thee thy inner person.\u00a0 That mirror is the Holy\u00a0Book.\u00a0 In a mirror\u00a0of glass thou canst see thy face as thy neighbour see it, but in the Word of God thou canst see thy heart as God sees it.<\/p>\n

Our earthly mirrors sometimes shew things that make us sad.\u00a0 A woman may think her face still young and fair; but her mirror shews the wrinkles and grey hairs that have begun to come.\u00a0 It tells her the truth.<\/p>\n

So also God\u2019s Word tells us the truth about our hearts, that is to say that they are not good as we like to think them, but bad before Him.<\/p>\n

For instance, thou thinkest\u00a0perhaps that thou canst gossip all day long, without\u00a0harm.\u00a0 See how that gossip appears to God.\u00a0 He says, \u201cIn the multitude of words there wanteth\u00a0not sin.\u201d\u00a0 \u201cEvery idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.\u201d<\/p>\n

It may be, in thy mind are thoughts of pride, despising\u00a0thy neighbour.\u00a0 Look in the mirror of God:\u00a0 He says, \u201cHe that despiseth\u00a0his neighbour sinneth.\u201d<\/p>\n

It may be that thy heart harbours hatred against\u00a0another, thou sayest, \u201cI do well to be angry.\u201d\u00a0 Look once more in God\u2019s mirror and see how this hatred looks to Him:\u00a0 \u201cHe that hateth his brother is a murderer.\u201d<\/p>\n

Look, O my sister, in this mirror that tells thee the truth, and quickly thou wilt see that thou dost need a Saviour.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
